We are very excited to have picked up Your Secret Admiral at the Austin Renegade! Your Secret Admiral is a Brooklyn-based artist, who specializes in handmade books, drawings, and paper goods. Most of her goods are environmentally friendly and are created from recycled, reused, repurposed, rescued, and reloved materials. We have some card packs and little weekly lists, but the jewel is the hand bound journals! Each book is is made from papers that are collected, assembled, folded, cut, and bound together. Many of them have vintage hardcovers as the cover for the journal. These one of a kind books are pure awesomeness!

We hope you are all having a happy holiday weekend!

A few weeks ago 3/4 of the Tomte team packed up and headed to the first ever Renegade Handmade Fair to hit Austin, TX. Our favorite part of this incredible happening was meeting and getting to see a lot of the smiling faces that fill Tomte. Modern Craft with such crafty goods. Here are some highlights of who we ran into including some friendly faces from Colorado…

Picture above from left to right: Ryan & Lucy of Berkely Illustrations, Karl (Judy not pictured) of Blackbird Tees, Whitney of Lucky Me Beads, Sandra Fettingis, Becky of becky’s buttons (1/4 of the Tomte team), Kurt of Swear Jar, Marybeth of mmsomewhere & Derrick of Bound in Circles and Crystal & Brett of Vital Industries (the couple behind Tomte. Modern Craft).

Our current store feature is fellow TOSA artist Tim Willink of Windmill Woodworks. Tim’s wood shop is located just behind our wallpapered wall. He works with salvaged lumber from fences and barns. Many of the picture frames and birdhouses we have in the store are painted fun bright colors, but our favorite are the ones were the weathered wood is left in its original state. Tim crafts lots of other pieces besides what we have in the shop including benches and case pieces. (He is also known to do custom work if you ask nicely.) Check out some of his picture frames in our online showcase here: http://tomtecraft.bigcartel.com/

Hey, All! We brought new Berkley prints back with us from Austin. They are now in the store, so be sure to stop in to get first pick. (Personally, I think the Wonder Kittens are awesome!)

Happy First Friday!

There is an awesome show opening tonight in the main gallery at TOSA (see flier below) and we will be open extended hours. We hope to see you there!

Another around town event this weekend: tomorrow, May 8th is Project Hello. The goal of Project Hello is to connect and promote creatives in Denver. This event includes exhibitions and events focused on the creative community including visual artists, crafters, designers, musicians, fashion and jewelry designers, writers, culinary artists, film makers, and performers. Learn more here: http://projecthello.posterous.com/

Among other upcoming Tomte news, we (as Vital Industries) will be in Austin, Texas next week for Renegade Austin! We (as Tomte) are hoping to pick up a couple new artists at the show, so watch for newness in the next couple weeks!

We were able to find a store helper for most everyday except Thursday. So, please be aware Tomte will be closed Thursday, May 13th.

Tomte is pleased to welcome Portland jewelry artist and instructor Rebecca Melton to our jewelry line up! The pieces in her oddball line are hand crafted in steel, enamel, sterling and fine silvers. We are happy to have her!
